After a day spent at the beach without using special sunscreen, you will face a very annoying problem, both physically and aesthetically. The skin will begin to itch and you’ll deal with peeling skin. Beyond the unpleasant appearance, pain and burns may occur.
Here are 6 tips to help you cope with this annoying situation:
1. Soothe the problem area
When you notice that your skin begins to swell and blisters occur, you should do cold showers to soothe the irritated area and to slow the peeling process. After, dab the affected area with a clean towel. Do not rub, because you’ll accelerate the peeling process.
2. Stop scrathcing
Avoid scratching your skin because you can cause wounds that will leave scars. When you feel the need to scratch, use ice. Put a few cubes in a soft cloth and cool the itching.
3. Moisturize your skin
After getting out the shower, apply a moisturizer. Choose a product specifically designed for sunburns or a cream that contains aloe. This will soothe the irritated skin, will reduce inflammation and will slow the peeling process.
4. Drink water
Outside hydration must be completed with the inside hydration. Drink plenty of water to give all the nutrients your skin needs in order to be recovered. Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day if you deal with peeling skin.
5. Do not peel your sunburn
Even if you feel the need to do it, don’t peel your sunburn. Even if it looks unsightly, if you peel it infection can occur. You can, however, cut the ends with a fine scissors, then apply an antibacterial cream.
6. Avoid scarring
You can prevent scarring if bathing with colloidal oatmeal. You can apply a cream with vitamin E directly on the skin to speed healing without scarring.
As everybody knows, it is best to prevent than to treat, so do not go out in the sun without applying sunscreen. If you go into the water, reapply the cream. Do not forget the “hidden” areas – the ears, back of the ear, neck. These are often overlooked and can suffer dangerous sunburn.
