Treat your brittle and discolored nails before it’s too late. The nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis, can affect both your hands and feet and may damage them permanently. Left untreated, they can cause infections in other areas of your body. Although drugs are available both oral or topical, natural remedies such as vinegar, tea tree oil, eucalyptus and lemon are very effective in the treatment and prevention of foot and hands fungus.
There are several studies which indicate that soaking the affected hands and feet in vinegar may prevent the growth of bacteria that cause fungal infections. Mix one part vinegar with two parts warm water and soak your hands and feet in this solution for at least 15 minutes. Use the vinegar solution daily until the fungal infection is gone. If you have irritated skin, don’t use this solution daily, but twice a week.
Eucalyptus oil and lemon
The eucalyptus leaves oil and lemon have antifungal properties effective in treating foot fungus. Combine equal parts of eucalyptus oil and lemon and apply it directly on the hands and feet affected by fungi until the infection is cured.
Tea tree oil
Using a solution prepared with 100 percent tea tree oil designed to treat feet and hands fungus is as effective as using a solution of 1 percent clortimazol. Gently rub the solution on the areas affected by fungi twice a day. Apply the oil on a regular basis not only to cure the infection, but also to improve the appearance of your nails.
Since fungi thrive in warm, moist areas, you should always keep your hands and feet warm and dry in order to prevent spreading the infection. Dry your hands and feet with a dry towel after bathing and apply talc to those affected areas in order to reduce moisture. Cut your nails regularly and match them by cutting straight across from reaching beyond the tip of your fingers.
