Lemon juice is widely used in the kitchen, giving tasty and healthy results when added to foods and beverages. It also has multiple advantages in natural skin care and beauty treatments. Here you find some ways to use it as a natural part of your beauty regimen.
Use lemon to get a beautiful skin
Apply fresh lemon juice in any area of your body (including knees, elbows and face) if you want a brighter and smoother skin. Lemon juice also fades freckles if you apply it on the affected area before bedtime. You will see results in a week or two, it will clean your skin and will brighten its color. You can also add half a cup of fresh lemon juice to your bath water and leave it there for about 20 minutes. You may want to dilute the juice with a little water, instead of using it to its maximum concentration, in the event that your skin is sensitive to citric acid from lemons.
Since lemon juice increases the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, it is not advisable to apply it before sun exposure. If you want to get rid of black spots, rub the affected area with lemon juice before bed and, in the morning, rinse your face with cold water. Repeat the procedure every night until blackheads disappear. If your skin is dry, you can prepare a moisturizing mask by mixing equal amounts of honey, lemon and olive oil. Apply the mixture on dry areas of the skin, let it dry for ten minutes and rinse with warm water.
If you need a tonic for oily skin, mix two tablespoons of lemon juice, two of vodka, one of distilled water and a teaspoon of witch hazel. Use cotton balls to apply this toner on your skin and then rinse. You can keep it in the refrigerator for a week. If you want to exfoliate dead skin cells, cut a lemon, apply half a tablespoon of sugar and rub your face with it for a few minutes.
Another option is to make a smooth mixture with lemon juice, sugar and a small amount of water. Repeat this every night and you’ll remove accumulated dead skin cells. If you want an anti-wrinkle mask, mix one teaspoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice and a drop of sweet almond oil. Apply this mixture on the face, let it dry for 20 minutes and then remove it by washing your face.
Use lemon to treat your hair
If you want to prepare a hair conditioner, mix ¾ cup of olive oil, ½ cup of raw honey and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice. With the help of a comb, apply the mixture evenly all over the hair which was previously wet. Cover your hair with a cap or a plastic bag for half an hour and then apply shampoo and rinse to remove the conditioner. If you want to add some natural highlights to your hair, use ¼ cup of lemon juice and ¾ cup of water and apply the mixture on your hair. Keep in mind that each use will slightly lighten your hair. If you want to rinse your hair with lemon, mix the juice squeezed from two lemons (about 3 fluid ounces) with a quart (about 1 liter) of water. This will reduce fat from your hair. If you want to treat hair loss, mix lemon juice with four tablespoons of coconut milk and apply it on the scalp once a week. If your problem is dandruff and itching, take an egg and mix it with the juice squeezed from 1 lemon (about 3 tablespoons). Apply this mixture on the scalp, rub, leave on for an hour and then wash the hair. Repeat the treatment for a month.
Use lemon for nail treatment
To get strong, bright and shiny nails, dip them in lemon juice for about ten minutes. Brush them previously, soak them in a mixture of white vinegar and warm water in equal parts, and then rinse with warm water.
Use lemon to treat your teeth and your breath
Being a natural oral flavoring, citric acid from lemons destroys odor-causing bacteria. Put a few drops of lemon juice into the mouth, rinse it for 15 seconds before swallowing and you will get rid of bad breath quickly. Another option is to drink lemon water throughout the day. If you do so, you will get a long lasting fresh breath! Do you want to whiten your teeth naturally? Rub the teeth with half a lemon impregnated with salt and a pinch of baking soda or brush them with a mixture of lemon juice, salt and baking soda.
Use lemon on body detox treatments
Lemon water is also a great remedy to detoxify your body. Mix a glass of lemon juice with warm water sweetened with a teaspoon of honey. Lemon juice will help your liver eliminate unwanted toxins, will stimulate blood circulation, will reduce blood pressure and will activate bile and intestinal secretions. Therefore, it’s a good habit to drink lemon water every day.
